Semester 2 final

Through my freshman year in 2D art and Advanced 2D art I learned a variety of things about the subject of art and about myself. I composed a detailed blog that was my "portfolio" for the year, while I also kept a physical folder of art. In my whole portfolio I applied known technical elements to enhance my overall artwork. I used craftsmanship and attention to detail which showed my advancement in the class. My knowledge of composition, layout, shape, space, color, texture, line, and value all helped in creating some of my best work in the class. By using a majority of these techniques my art became very visually appealing to not only me, but others as well. 2D art was not only about simply drawing and painting, but artistic vocabulary as well. By understanding the concepts of background, middle-ground, and foreground my pieces were neat and understandable to my audience. Knowing the difference between contrast and balance was important as well. Depending on what my art was for or about was the choice to use balance, contrast, or both. Neither were bad when used but if the right one was chosen by art was naturally better. Finally, unity within my art was the most important. I understood that the multitude of these individual concepts must collaborate into my one piece in order for them to all be present and effective.
Another important aspect that has changed my art in a big way is incorporating my voice into all of it. My voice comes from the inspiration that I pull from my life and other things, whether it be music or nature.  The pieces in my portfolio that express the most voice are my personal pieces that I didn't do in class. However, my in class piece that shows voice the most  is my paper bag piece. My paper bag piece shows my perspective on winning and losing. Perspective plays a major role in how my art appears. It can impact color scheme because the way that I see things is wither dark or bright, sad or happy. For example, in my Earth day fauvism piece half of it is bright colors of the city and the other is dark and burning nature. It portrays how I see the impact of modernization on nature. I (and everyone else) sees the city as beautiful, but behind that is what I see and not many others do, the torture of nature in the process of creating this "beautiful" city.
Throughout my year in 2D art I learned how to display my own personal perspective without directly saying it, portray voice, and make a good piece by using artistic concepts. If I would have not taken this class I would not be at the skill level I am today and i would also not be able to further my knowledge in photography and art next year. Even though this year has come to an end, my art never will.

Portrait

By drawing and shading a self portrait in 2d art I learned how shading can impact the realisticness of a piece of work. By shading bones and other structures a sense of depth is portrayed along with a look of color even without actually using colors. This piece took me a very long time, but I am very happy with the outcome.

Fauvism piece

Our class created earth day fauvism pieces to possibly be showcased at a lunch in. Through doing this piece I was able to portray my creativity and color sense into my art. I made an eye seeing a beautiful city when in reality that city was made up by destroying the truly beautiful and meant to be side of earth, nature.

Flower water color

In introduction to 2d art we were required to create a water color piece using different techniques that we learned throughout the course, just a few examples are a dry brush on dry paper, using salty using a  knife on the paper, and wet paper with a wet brush. We first drew and then painted our flowers by looking at real/fake flowers and mimicking what we saw. The green coloring leaked on the paper due to the way it was tilted.

Texture drawing

This piece is done with shading pencil, the objective was to create the appearance of texture even though it was a 2d drawing. I learned many new textures and how to draw them, such as the brick background and the curves on the shoes.
